Generally, these beauties are thought to be one of the best talkers in the Amazon family, along with the DYH, the Yellow Nape, and the Yellow Crowns. Just plain fun birds to own. They never stop playing, and entertaining!

Smart, charismatic a wonderful addition to a family who understands letting a bird be a bird.

Feed a pelleted diet, fresh veggies and watch the fat as they can become overweight in captivity.

DOUBLE YELLOW HEAD

Price ($730)
6 Available Now: (3 Females,3 Males)

$

Another one of the great talkers, the Double Yellow Head will entertain you with their ability to speak, mimic, sing songs, and play. These Amazons will enjoy as much out of the cage time as you can provide and love to be with their "flock", or people.

A cage with a play top is a good choice but be cautious about height, so as not to provide them a play stand that is above your own head. This can cause "dominant tendencies" in person with any Amazon. 36" x 24" cage size is recommended, and don't forget the toys!

A gentle, sweet-natured amazon, these are a great choice for a quieter amazon, as well as slightly smaller than traditional Amazon species. About 12 inches in length, they are native to Venezuela.

Yellow Shoulder Amazons are identified by their yellow head, and shoulders, and a red patch on their wings.

An expensive cage is not necessary as these birds will not be cage destructive. Buy larger rather than well made. They appreciate lots of room for multiple toys, perches, and wing flapping.

The Lilac-crowned Amazon is native to Mexico. Approximately 13 inches in length, slightly smaller than the common Yellow Nape, Double Yellows, and Blue Fronts.

These Amazons are often even-tempered and might be a good family choice. They seem to enjoy the interaction with children and are not so likely to bond with only one family member. They are voracious chewers, so provide plenty of toys that can be destroyed to keep their beaks in good shape. A cage does not have to be expensive, as they are usually not destructive of that nature. 32" x 23" is a recommended size.

The Orange Winged Amazon is approximately 13 inches in length and smaller than some of the common Amazons like the Yellow Nape.

DNA is necessary to tell males from females, as with all Amazons. Native to South America, they are rainforest birds who love to take a bath.

They can make wonderful pets even in an apartment or condo, as they do not require a huge cage, although noise may be a factor. Cage size should be 32" x 23".

Just google "Panama Amazon" and you will find nothing bad about these creatures. Slightly smaller Amazons, they are known to be sweet, gentle, loving family members. Never moody, as with some Amazon species, they make great choices for families with children. Panamas have a beautiful face, and although often confused with the Yellow Crowned Amazon, their beaks are white as opposed to the Yellow Crown's reddish/orange beak. Talking ability can be very good and housing them is not difficult as they are not caged destructive.

The beautiful Red Lored Amazon is often thought to be one of the most colorful with its face in blues, red, white and green.

Found natively in Central America, they are 13 to 14 inches in length. Often thought to be rather shy in nature, this Amazon is one of the more gentle in the species and perhaps a better pet choice for many because of it's sweet nature. Talking ability is not thought to be as good as the popular Yellow Nape, Double Yellow, Blue Front or Yellow Crown, however.

The Yellow Crown Amazon is native to South America and Panama. When birds began to be imported into the Europe United States, Yellow Crowns and Panamas were not recognized to be different species, and sadly, not as many Panamas were imported. When breeders realized that they were actually two different species, importation had ended, and there were many more Yellow Crowns in the US than Panamas. They can be distinguished by their beak color. The Yellow Crown has a pearl beak with orange/red coloration.

Ahh, the Yellow Napes.... fun, intelligent, charismatic, great talkers.... I could go on and on about these Amazons. But, on the other hand, they can be very strong-willed and their personalities are, perhaps, for someone with bird experience under their belts.

Sometimes called "unpredictable" in behavior, it really means you need to read Amazon body language and understanding that you might have to "come back later" when wanting to interact with your bird.
