This sweet-natured little Cockatoo is approximately 15 inches in length, and very similar to the Goffin's Cockatoo, except for the bare skin around the eyes.
They usually love baths, so controlling their dusty powder can be done by frequent bathing.
They are, as most Cockatoos, loud. Not a good choice for apartments/condos, or those who prefer quiet. However, those who tceles this species, will be rewarded by a loving, gentle nature, and a bird who will usually allow itself to be held by anyone. Can be wonderful in a family situation with children.

These beautiful and smaller Cockatoos are native to Indonesia. They are endangered in the wild due to illegal pet markets and deforestation. 12 to 15 inches in size and 360 to 425 grams in weight, they are smaller than their Umbrella relatives yet larger than the Goffin's, Bare-Eyed or Rose Breasted.
Be prepared to invest in a well-made, large cage. They need space for all the fun and toys they require.
GOFFIN'S COCKATOOS

Goffin's Cockatoos are a smaller cockatoo, approximately 32 cm in length, and 220 to 385 grams in weight. But what they may lack in size, they can make up for in being equally loud, and just as destructive of cages and toys as the larger cockatoos.
Goffin's and Bare-eyed are similar in appearance, although the Bare-eyed is usually a little longer, 40 cm, and exhibits the unusual bare skin around the eyes.
MOLUCCAN COCKATOO

Also called the "Salmon Crested", this Cockatoo species is one of the largest in the group. Approximately 21 inches in length, they require a huge, VERY well made cage. 36" x 48" is recommended. These birds are destructive in nature and will be so on toys, dishes, perches and cage bars.
Like most Cockatoos, the females sometimes have reddish irises as opposed to the male's black eye. Females, when compared to males, will also exhibit a smaller head.

Regal, elegant, gentle souls, sweet of nature, docile, all these characteristics fit the wonderful Palm Cockatoo. You have not lived until you have seen and had the opportunity to interact with one of these creatures.
Approximately 23 to 28 inches in length, they are found natively in Indonesia, New Guinea, and Australia. They do not breed well in captivity and their diet is specific and regulated, therefore, the expense of these beauties.
UMBRELLA COCKATOO

Umbrella Cockatoos are fairly needy but extremely loving. Total length is approximately 45 cm, and an average weight will be 600 to 700 grams, although they can range as small as 460 grams and as large as 750 grams.
These birds can be very loud, and being so makes them unsuitable for apartments and small dwellings. When he wants to be, an Umbrella can be very destructive of his toys and cage. Be prepared to have a big toy budget with these guys or just lots of 2 x 4's!
ROSE BREASTED COCKATOO

Everyone has to be stunned by the beauty of this bird. A beautiful pink and rose color with soft grey on its chest, these birds are just as soft to the touch as cotton.
One of the smaller Cockatoos, this species is often considered to be a better talker than most other Cockatoos. The male is usually slightly more rose-colored than pink and has black eyes as opposed to the female's reddish iris.
TRITON COCKATOO
More of the "snuggle bunnies" but usually good talkers!
Triton cockatoos are often mistaken for the Greater Sulphur Crested Cockatoo. They are, however, a different subspecies of Cockatoo. If you remember the TV show "Baretta" and "Fred" the Cockatoo, Fred was a Triton. On the show, they actually used four "Freds" and it is reported that all four Cockatoos are still alive and living in California. Large and in charge is a great way to describe these active birds. About 46 centimeters, or 18 to 19 inches in length, and approximately 690 grams in weight, with this size Cockatoo, obviously a very large, well-made cage, is mandatory, not optional.

SULFUR CRESTED COCKATOO

Three sub-species, the Lessor, the Medium and the Greater Sulfur Crested are usually found in the pet market. They range in size from a smaller Cockatoo of 13 to 14 inches to the Greater who can be 20 inches.
Keep these birds busy with toys, toys, toys, as they are destructive in nature and need to be entertained. Noise can be a concern for owners. Not for apartments or condos.
Set the parameters early when owning this Cockatoo. Just like children, they seem to do best when they are on a schedule and know what to expect.
