When raised properly, these beautiful Macaws can be affectionate, snuggly, loving creatures. They can be trained to do tricks, and can also become excellent talkers!
Usually very reasonably priced among the Macaw choices, their prolific captive-breeding habits have kept the prices lower than some of the large Macaws.
BLUE THROAT(CANINDE) MACAW

The stunning Blue Throated Macaw might appear to be a Blue & Gold at first glance. But look closely, he is not at all the same. Blue Throated Macaws are slightly smaller in size, approximately 33 inches or 85 cm in length and about 750 grams in weight. They originate in Bolivia, South America.
GREEN WINGED MACAWS

One of the larger of the Macaws, these stunningly red and green birds can be sweet in nature and powerful in attitude. Again, a very large cage is a requirement, not an option, and toys, toys, toys.
When weaned onto a pelleted diet, they appreciate fresh veggies and fruit daily, in addition to a high-quality nut mixture. Variety in their diet is important not only for health but to prevent boredom.
HYACINTH MACAWS

The "gentle giants" of the Macaw world, their purple-blue feathering, and amazing yellow eye rings will amaze most people with their first site of this bird. Incredibly strong, they can talk, cuddle, crack nuts like no nutcracker you've ever owned, and bath like a duck! As the largest of the large Macaws, Hyacinths have a high mortality rate before weaning, and so, it is usually inadvisable to purchase an unweaned youngster.
MILITARY MACAWS

A smaller sized macaw, with a somewhat less colorful feathering. These birds are a consideration for someone who doesn't have the space for the larger cage necessary for some Macaw species.
This bird may be somewhat confrontational to the inexperienced bird owner however and requires limits set early in your relationship, to establish the bird and the boss of the household.
RED FRONTED MACAW

The smallest in the Macaw category, not considered to be a Mini Macaw, the Red Fronted is approximately 24 inches in length. Their numbers are declining daily in nature, however, they breed quite readily in captivity. they can be excellent talkers and make wonderful pets when raised with gentle patience.
SCARLET MACAWS

The large and in charge Scarlets can actually range in size from a quite small big Macaw to a large, quite heavy, bigger Macaw.
These birds need to know who's the boss, and love to be stimulated by learning tricks and games. Sometimes considered to be "bitey", it's really more of a little love pinch, or nip, that they are famous for. A quick little "jiggle" or short "pord" of the arm will teach them to associate a momentary "off balance" feeling with unacceptable behavior, and your loving, gentle. most beautiful Macaw will emerge. ce.
